DE_Meat is a level for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive which I created together with Robin-Yann Storm. We decided to design a bomb defusal level in a slaugtherhouse because this would allow us to create a visually clear level with many different distinguishable areas and landmarks.
To date the level has over 16.000 subscribers on the Steam Workshop and has a 5/5 star rating.
We started sketching layouts together and both prototyped different blockouts untill we had a basic setup to work on. At this point we started working on the same layout using the instancing system, each working on a different area each time.
This allowed us to keep a fresh look on each other's changes and allowed us to quickly iterate after each playtest.
When we were satisfied with the layout we started set dressing the level with existing textures and models from Counter-Strike. To make the level more unique we asked the help of several 3D artists to create models for us and we created several new textures.
